Fantastic antique French 'Etain' (Pewter) wine jug. Makers mark on bottom.
These pitchers were traditionally used for red wine before glass became more widely used in the 20th century. The pitcher would have been filled directly from a barrel in the home cellar before being put on the dining table.
Because older pewter may contain lead it is not recommended to use these for drinking from.
