The lid and spout stamped Auto Siphon has a port into which a mini carbon dioxide tube was screwed to provide the fizz for the water or flavoured drink dispensed. The system was invented in France in the 1790's and widely used in homes and café bars until the advent of plastic bottled sparkling drinks.
The cartridges are still available to this day.
